A suspect has been apprehended by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, accused of manslaughter following a fatal dog attack on Ricker Road in 2024.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Almost two years have passed since a man was discovered dead in the McGirts Creek vicinity, and now an arrest has been made by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office concerning the incident.
During the early hours of August 31, 2024, officers from JSO reported the discovery of a deceased man along Ricker Road. Subsequent investigations revealed that the victim, 59-year-old Ronald Coffman, succumbed to injuries inflicted by multiple dog bites.
Melvyn Souffrount, aged 62, was taken into custody on Monday, charged with manslaughter in relation to Coffman’s demise. He has been detained at the Duval County jail since then.
Throughout the extensive investigation, authorities concluded that Souffrount was responsible due to “numerous and repeated negligent actions,” though specific details were not disclosed.
