Human remains, including infant, discovered in Monterey County

Two disturbing discoveries made just hours apart have prompted separate investigations in Monterey County, where authorities say the remains of a dead infant and another person were found on opposite sides of the California county.

The first call came in around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, sending deputies and firefighters to the 100 block of Struve Road in Moss Landing after reports that a baby had been discovered, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

When fire personnel arrived, they confirmed the infant was dead, setting off an investigation into the tragic find.

Less than 90 minutes later, authorities were called to another scene roughly 25 miles away. At 9:55 a.m., a county employee working in the 400 block of Stage Road in Salinas reported finding what appeared to be human remains.

Monterey County Sheriff’s Department Commander Andy Rosas told The California Post that investigators currently do not believe the two incidents are connected.

“We do not have any further details on the condition of the remains of either of the two cases,” Rosas said.

“As you can imagine, it is rare to have two of these types of cases going on simultaneously and our detectives are working hard to try to gather as much information as possible.”

“Respectfully, we will not be releasing any further information at this time,” Rosas added, saying officials hoped to provide some type of update on the cases by Monday.

Both incidents are being actively investigated, as no other information has been provided including the identities of either of the people or how old they were.

Authorities are asking anyone who might have information related to either of the incidents to contact the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

The disturbing news comes following shocking discoveries in Fresno on Friday where two bodies were found, including one on the roof of a building on the campus of a local high school.

The Fresno Police Department said around 11 a.m. an employee at Fresno High School said they found what they believed to be the body of a deceased person on the roof of a building located on the north end of the campus, near Echo and Weldon.

Crews responded and found the body of an adult male, who was pronounced deceased on scene. It is unclear how long the body was there.

The discovery came just hours after authorities responded to reports of a body found in a water canal just outside the city. The body was later determined to be that of an adult male.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department said on Saturday their deaths were no longer considered suspicious.
