Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has remained out of the public eye, refraining from releasing any audio or video messages since taking office. This unusual silence is reportedly due to severe injuries he sustained during airstrikes on February 28, which left his face and lips badly burned. As diplomatic efforts face challenges, former President Trump has highlighted the lack of clear leadership in Tehran as a significant obstacle to peace negotiations.
According to insights from four Iranian officials reported by the New York Times, the 56-year-old Khamenei is reluctant to appear on camera or audio recordings to avoid showing vulnerability or weakness. His health issues are compounded by multiple surgeries; his leg has undergone three operations in anticipation of a prosthetic, and he has also required surgery on his hand.
