Man shot, killed at Jacksonville hookah lounge; shooter taken into custody after calling 911, police say

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the alleged shooter was escorted to the Police Memorial Building for questioning.

In JACKSONVILLE, Fla., law enforcement officers discovered a man fatally shot at a hookah lounge on Monday night. The shooter himself had called 911 to report the incident, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office.

JSO Sergeant Josh Catir explained that patrol officers were dispatched to Medusa Lounge, situated at 9551 Baymeadows Rd., following reports of a shooting just before 10 p.m. on Monday.

En route to the scene, officers were informed by dispatch that the shooter remained at the location and had been the one to call 911.

Upon arrival, officers detained the shooter and began searching the area. During their search, they discovered the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed the man was deceased.

Following the incident, detectives conducted an interview with the alleged shooter at the JSO headquarters.

“At this time, we do not know the relationship of the parties involved, nor do we know the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Catir said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
