Jacksonville is grappling with unsettling news as Jose Guerra, a seasoned corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, finds himself entangled in legal troubles. This veteran officer, who has served for 19 years, is now facing serious charges in Flagler County.
In an announcement made Thursday night, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of 54-year-old Guerra. The arrest, executed by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on January 14, stemmed from an alleged physical altercation.
Details from the arrest report reveal that the situation escalated to a point where a 911 call was made. During this call, the victim’s cries for help were clearly audible, prompting immediate response from the authorities.
When Flagler County deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered the victim, who provided a harrowing account. The victim accused Guerra of choking and physically assaulting them, a claim supported by visible minor injuries noted by the deputies, including scratches and a red mark on the chest.
Further compounding the gravity of the situation, the victim disclosed to the deputies that this was not the first instance of violence they had suffered at the hands of Guerra.
The victim stated that Guerra had been violent against them before.
The report states Guerra was detained by deputies and charged with a misdemeanor count of battery and a felony charge of witness tampering.
JSO says Guerra has been suspended without pay pending termination.
This is the third arrest of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office employee so far in 2026.
