The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is kicking off six weeks of town halls in all six of its districts.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is seeking the community’s help in identifying methods to enhance neighborhood safety. Starting from Tuesday, July 8, Sheriff T.K. Waters will commence a series of town hall meetings over a six-week period within each of the six patrol districts managed by JSO.

“If they feel safe, that means that’s good. But if they don’t, I want to know why you don’t feel safe,” Waters explained.

Sheriff Waters is eager to receive feedback pertaining to crime and safety challenges from each district’s residents. He plans to utilize this input to develop strategies for addressing these issues in the future. He noted that every district faces unique challenges, and these discussions are essential for JSO to effectively address their specific needs.

“In District 3, traffic congestion stands out as a major problem due to its dense population. District 2 deals significantly with homelessness; each area faces distinct issues. However, more violent crimes have predominantly occurred in Districts 4, 5, and 6,” Waters elaborated.

Waters will also take this opportunity to tout some of the successes his agency has achieved over the last year, including an overall drop in crime.

“We’re down 16.3% to 16.8% in crime in general. So, we’re seeing huge success across the map,” Waters said.

The number of homicides for 2025 so far is also on pace with the historic low numbers of 2024.

Looking ahead, Waters wants to keep the momentum going. He believes these townhalls, along with the expansion of the agency’s real time crime center, will continue the overall reduction of crime and help people feel safer in the city.

“We’re gonna make it so that it’s very difficult, if you do something in Jacksonville, you’re not gonna get away with it. That’s the goal,” Waters said.
