Jacksonville University extends women’s basketball coach Special Jennings

With Special Jennings at the forefront, Jacksonville University’s women’s basketball team clinched the ASUN Championship and made its way to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in its history.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville University is doubling down on its commitment to its women’s basketball team by extending the contract of head coach Special Jennings.

According to sources, Jennings’ new contract will run through the 2032 season.

Since taking charge in 2023, Jennings has transformed the Dolphins. In her third season, the team achieved a standout performance, securing the ASUN Championship and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament, a feat accomplished only once before in the program’s history.

This swift success represents a turning point for a team that had been striving for stability. Under Jennings’ guidance, the Dolphins have set a new benchmark, seamlessly blending disciplined play with impressive postseason accomplishments.

“We are excited to have Coach Jennings lead our women’s basketball program for many more years,” said Alex Ricker-Gilbert, senior vice president and athletic director at Jacksonville, in a statement. “The program’s remarkable progress over the past three years culminated in a historic championship triumph. The 2025-2026 season was a monumental achievement for our team and the university, and we look forward to continuing this upward trajectory with Coach Jennings at the helm.”

Securing Jennings long-term signals confidence from the university in both her vision and the program’s upward trajectory. With a conference title and NCAA appearance already on her résumé, expectations will continue to rise as Jacksonville looks to build on its recent momentum.
