Jalen Hurts has two turnovers on same play during Eagles-Chargers game

In a challenging first half for Jalen Hurts during the Eagles’ Monday night game, the quarterback experienced multiple turnovers, including a highly unusual sequence involving two turnovers on a single play.

This extraordinary series of events unfolded in the second quarter of Philadelphia’s contest against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium. Hurts, attempting a pass, inadvertently threw the ball directly into the hands of Chargers defender Da’Shawn Hand.

However, as Hand tried to advance the ball, he fumbled, allowing Hurts a chance to reclaim possession by recovering the loose ball himself.

Unfortunately for Hurts, he soon lost control of the ball once again, dropping it to the ground, where the Chargers capitalized by recovering the fumble.

This sequence marked a historic moment as Hurts became the first NFL player to both throw an interception and lose a fumble on the same play.

The only other instance of two turnovers on a single play involved Raiders receiver James Jones, who fumbled twice during a game in 2014.

The debacle was hardly the only gaffe committed during Monday night’s first 30 minutes.

Hurts actually went on to throw a second interception just minutes after his history-making play, but when Justin Herbert attempted to capitalize on it during the ensuing Chargers drive, he fumbled it right back.

In the final minute of the half, Herbert tacked on another interception — moving the total number of turnovers in the half to a staggering six.

The Eagles were not able to come away with points after the latest Herbert mistake — kicker Jake Elliott missed a 48-yard field goal that would have brought the score to 10-9.

Neither quarterback surpassed the 100-yard passing mark, and neither team eclipsed 100 yards rushing more than halfway through the third quarter.
