An enormous explosion on Friday sent a dramatic plume of smoke billowing into the sky over Simi Valley, sparking alarm among local residents. However, TV personality Johnny Knoxville was quick to assure everyone that there was no cause for panic.

Knoxville disclosed that the spectacular blast was a carefully orchestrated stunt for the latest installment of the “Jackass” franchise, titled “Jackass: Best and Last.”

The explosion, which occurred near Simi Dog Park, led to widespread concern, with some residents fearing it was the result of a plane crash.

KTLA5 reported that Instagram user @joeknowsventura captured the dramatic scene, posting a video of the towering smoke cloud rising ominously over the surrounding hills.

To calm the public’s nerves, Knoxville took to social media to clarify the situation. “Apparently, people thought a plane had crashed yesterday in Simi Valley,” he wrote. “Little did they know it was from a massive explosion created by @jemfxpopov for the final day of ‘Jackass’ filming.”

“Apparently people thought a plane had crashed yesterday in Simi Valley,” Knoxville wrote. “Little did they know it was from a monstrous explosion @jemfxpopov created for us for the final day ever of ‘Jackass’ filming.

“We were standing near the explosion and couldn’t believe what we were seeing,” Knoxville added.

Officials say filming activity in the area is not unusual.

A spokesperson for Ventura County Fire Department noted that large-scale effects are often carried out nearby due to the presence of Big Sky Movie Ranch.

It’s still unclear how powerful the explosion was or whether it prompted emergency calls from concerned residents.

Knoxville added that the production wrapped in memorable fashion.

The new “Jackass” installment — the fifth in the franchise — is set to arrive in theaters on June 26. The Jackass movies are a series of compilation films featuring Knoxville and his crew performing outrageous, dangerous, and often gross-out stunts, pranks and comedy skits.
