JOLIET, Ill. () — A man is accused of fatally stabbing his wife and then using the same knife to die by suicide inside a garage in south suburban Joliet early Sunday, police said.
According to Joliet police, officers were called to a home in the 1100-block of Loren Drive at about 5:15 a.m.
Police said a relative found the married couple unresponsive in the home’s attached garage.
Investigators said the incident appeared to stem from a “domestic-related confrontation” between the husband and wife, who lived together, that began in the garage during the early morning hours.
Detectives believe the 50-year-old man stabbed the 46-year-old woman several times before turning the knife on himself, police said.
The Will County Coroner’s Office pronounced both people dead at the scene. Investigators also recovered the knife believed to have been used.

The couple’s two adult children and one juvenile child were inside the home when officers arrived, but police said there is no evidence suggesting anyone besides the couple was involved.
Police said there is no known danger to the public. Officers and detectives canvassed the neighborhood extensively, and the investigation remains ongoing.
