'I was at home...' - Davido shares his reactions after hearing he was nominated for the Grammy awards

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, recently had an exclusive interview with the Recording Academy. Davido is a first-time nominee for the Grammy Award.

The “Unavailable” hitmaker Davido conducted a four-question Q&A session before to the 66th Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 4 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Although this is his first nomination, it was reported that Davido, in an interview with Eye on Africa in Paris, stated he should have won up to 20 Grammy Awards since he first became well-known 13 years ago. For the 2024 Grammy Awards, Davido has been nominated for three awards. These nominees include “Timeless,” his most recent release, for Best Global Album.

Best Global Music Performance for his song “Feel” and Best African Performance for his tune “Unavailable.” The Recording Academy interviewer questioned him, “What is your name and what Grammy are you up for this year?”

In response, Davido gave his name and identified all of the prize categories for which he was nominated.

“Where were you when you heard you were nominated?” the interviewer questioned.

Davido stated that he was at home when the nomination was announced, at which point he had breakfast and took a shower in the bathroom. The first person he called to let his manager, Asa Asika, know that he was in the room with his wife Chioma, he continued. His buddies from the album then used social media to let his followers know about the development.

The next question the recording academy interviewer asked was; “Why is it special to receive a nomination for timeless compared to your other work?

Davido stated that he put a lot of work in the Timeless album even though he has always put in the work in his albums.

He continued by saying that since Timeless is unique to him, he works one-on-one with his producers and engineers in his room.

This is the last query: “Which nominations mean the most to you, and why?”

Davido said all the nominations matters to him as this is the first time he gets the Grammy nominations and he is excited. He however noted that Grammy finally considers Africans for the Best African Music Performance.
