A child and an adult were killed Saturday after a vehicle drove onto a soccer field in Kansas, police said. Multiple other people were transported to hospitals.
WICHITA, Kan. — A 6-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man died after a truck drove through a soccer field in Wichita on Saturday, according to police.
Wichita Police Department Capt. Aaron Moses said officers began receiving multiple calls at about 3:25 p.m. CT reporting that a vehicle was driving through a soccer game at a Wichita sports complex.
Police identified the truck’s driver as a 34-year-old woman. Moses said during a Saturday evening news conference that she was being “cooperative.” Two minors were also inside the vehicle, police said, though their ages were not released.

The woman had a child playing soccer at the complex, but not on the field the truck entered, Moses said. Investigators have not identified a motive.
When officers arrived at the sports complex, they found community members providing medical assistance to people who had been injured, police said.
Eleven people were taken to area hospitals with various injuries. Moses said the injuries were expected to be non-life-threatening.
Those transported included a 5-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, two 8-year-old boys, a 9-year-old girl, a 28-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man, a 59-year-old woman, a 65-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man. A 61-year-old woman was also taken to a hospital for “non-traumatic medical issues,” Moses said.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said there is no broader threat to the community.
“This is a tragedy,” Moses said at a news conference held about 30 minutes after the vehicle drove onto the field.
“Please keep the victims and their families, all of those involved and everyone who had to witness such a horrific event in your hearts,” the Wichita Fire Department said in a social media post.
