In a recent discussion, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt attributed the challenges faced by her predecessor, Karine Jean-Pierre, to former President Joe Biden’s leadership style. Speaking with Erika Kirk, CEO of Turning Point USA, Leavitt expressed gratitude for former President Donald Trump’s straightforwardness, contrasting it with what she described as Biden’s inaccessibility.
During the event at George Washington University, Leavitt emphasized how Trump’s direct communication style simplifies her role. “He just lays it on the table,” she remarked. “There’s no guessing, no questioning, no spin. It just is what it is with him.”
Leavitt suggested that Jean-Pierre struggled in her role as press secretary due to a lack of open communication with Biden. “As his spokeswoman, I’m very grateful for that because I saw my predecessor in this role have a bit of a hard time,” Leavitt noted, commenting on the difficulties Jean-Pierre encountered in conveying the administration’s messages.
Jean-Pierre, who succeeded Jen Psaki in 2022 and held the position until Biden’s term concluded, often faced criticism. Observers noted her reliance on scripted talking points and perceived lack of preparedness during press briefings. Reports indicated that some senior members of the Biden administration viewed her as ineffective and unsuccessfully encouraged her to step down in late 2023.
Jean-Pierre, who replaced Jen Psaki as press secretary in 2022 and served in the role until Biden left office, was often criticized for sticking to talking points, seeming unprepared and dispensing little information during her White House briefings.
She was viewed as incompetent by many in the West Wing, including senior Biden aides who attempted unsuccessfully to coax her to leave the White House in late 2023, The Post previously reported.
A staunch defender of Biden, Jean-Pierre announced last year she was no longer a Democrat because of the partyâs treatment of her former boss.
She acknowledged during testimony before the House Oversight Committee last year that talking points were given to her by âvarious advisers ⦠relating to President Bidenâs health and mental acuity.â
Biden, who rarely gave interviews or took questions from the press, was reportedly shielded by a small, tight-knit group of advisers at the White House dubbed the âpolitburo,â according to the bombshell book âOriginal Sin.â
In contrast, Trump regularly takes questions â and even answers spontaneous phone calls â from reporters.Â
âThe president’s accessibility and transparency — not just to me and the rest of the West Wing staff — but to you, the American people, and the news media, is so refreshing,â Leavitt argued.Â
âEverything he says is exactly how he feels,â she added. âThere’s no guessing, and he’s honest and authentic about what he believes, and it makes my job much easier.
âThat’s one of the things I love most about the job.â
