A University of Kentucky athlete, accused of concealing her deceased newborn in a closet, had once expressed her aspiration of motherhood on social media.
Law enforcement from the Lexington Police Department apprehended 21-year-old Laken Snelling on Sunday after discovering an unresponsive infant, who was “pronounced deceased at the scene,” according to an official statement. Authorities identified Snelling as the infant’s mother.
In her recent TikTok update from June 25, Snelling revealed her wish to become a parent, listing it as a life ambition. She used an emoji of a mother holding a baby among other “goals,” such as a family, financial success, and owning a house.

Snelling, a senior at the University of Kentucky, is part of the STUNT team, as noted by a university representative. The university outlines STUNT as a “direct competition between two teams that emphasize the technical and athletic components of cheer,” recognized as “one of the fastest-growing female sports in the country.”
Snelling also “admitted to giving birth,” the police document indicated.
