One person was killed and four others were injured, including two children, after gunfire broke out during an outdoor concert in Kentucky on Saturday evening.
The shooting happened in downtown Lexington, a little more than a mile from the Hyatt Regency, where Gov. Andy Beshear was speaking at the Kentucky Democratic Party’s Moving Forward Together dinner, FOX56 reported.
“Before I continue, I do need to let y’all know we do have some tough news tonight,” Beshear told the crowd.
“About a mile and a half from here, we’ve had a shooting actually since we started this dinner,” he continued.
“We have five people that I think received injuries and probably have one deceased.”
Police said several victims were shot at Charles Young Park around 6:45 p.m., including two adults, a 14-year-old and a 4-year-old. They were taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
An outdoor concert was underway at the park when the Lexington shooting occurred, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
A spokesperson for the Lexington Police Department told the Daily Mail that the investigation remained active as of about 10:00 p.m. local time.
“No further details are available at this time,” the department said.
“If you know somebody who might be inclined to use a weapon, please do anything you can do to let us know before something happens. Please let us know,” Chief Weathers said at a press conference.
The Charles Young Park shooting follows three others in Michigan, Virginia and Chicago on Saturday.
