An illegal immigrant allegedly shot and killed a 15-year-old Kentucky teen who tried to stop him from raping his mother, authorities said.

Gildardo Amandor-Martinez, 36, a Mexican national, stands accused of killing his girlfriend’s son, Luis Jocsan Nanez Lopez. This tragic incident occurred on July 20 when the teen attempted to protect his mother from an attack. During this incident, the teen’s younger sister was also harmed.

“Luis Lopez, just 15, was slain while heroically trying to defend his mother from this criminal illegal immigrant who was trying to assault her,” stated Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Gildardo Amandor-Martinez is branded as a rapist and a ruthless killer who never should have been permitted into this country.”

Lopez would have been starting his sophomore year at Rowan County Senior High School, the Rowan County Coroner’s Office said.

Martinez faces charges of murder, first-degree assault, and attempted rape. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has filed a detainer request for him, asking local law enforcement to detain illegal immigrants until federal authorities can take custody.

According to ICE, Martinez tried to illegally cross the U.S. southern border three times in 2021 under Biden’s administration, succeeding on his third try.

“These open-border policies during the Biden administration have let such a dangerous individual onto American soil, leading to horrific crimes like murder, assault, and attempted rape against a family,” McLaughlin remarked. “ICE has issued a detainer to guarantee Amandor-Martinez remains in custody and is not released to pose a threat to American families again.”
