In Nashville, Tennessee, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, previously deported from the U.S. to El Salvador amid the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement, has been relocated from a detention center in Virginia to another facility in Pennsylvania.
Legal documents reveal that Immigration and Customs Enforcement informed Abrego Garcia’s legal team on Friday about his transfer to the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Phillipsburg. The agency stated this new location would provide easier access for his lawyers.
Nevertheless, his attorneys have voiced concerns about the conditions at Moshannon, citing recent allegations of “assaults, inadequate medical care, and insufficient food,” as mentioned in a federal court filing.
The Trump administration accused Abrego Garcia of being affiliated with the MS-13 gang, a claim that he refutes and for which no charges were filed.
In June, the administration allowed Abrego Garcia back into the U.S., but only to face charges related to human smuggling. His attorneys have criticized the charges as both absurd and retaliatory.
