Kristina Chambers found guilty of running over Joseph McMullins with Porsche near Houston Voodoo Donuts in 2023 sentenced

In Houston, a tragic incident unfolded during a first date, ending in the conviction and sentencing of a woman for manslaughter. Kristina Chambers was found guilty by a jury last Thursday for her role in the fatal accident.

The unfortunate event occurred in 2023 when Chambers, reportedly intoxicated and driving her Porsche at high speeds, struck Joseph McMullins. McMullins had just left Voodoo Donuts with his date in the Montrose area, near Westheimer and Waugh, when the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on a Wednesday.

Court records revealed that Chambers had a blood alcohol content four times the legal limit during the crash, highlighting the severity of her impaired state. This critical detail played a significant role in the jury’s decision.

Following the conviction, the sentencing phase took place on Monday, October 27, where the 35-year-old Chambers faced the reality of her actions with the court determining the length of her prison sentence.

According to court records, Chambers’ blood alcohol content was four times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

The sentencing phase followed on Monday, Oct. 27, where 35-year-old Chambers learned how long she will spend in prison.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the full sentence of 11 years and 14 days was because the victim’s birthday was November 14.

The crash was captured on surveillance cameras, shocking the public and playing a critical role in the trial, according to McMullin’s family attorney.

“It was an overwhelming amount of evidence that Ms. Chambers was drinking, high, being reckless, driving down an urban street,” said Rand Nolen, who is representing the McMullin family on a separate, civil case against Chambers.

During the trial, the defense argued that Chambers’ name-brand heels caused the crash, calling it an accident.

Prosecutors depicted Chambers as a wealthy woman who wanted to show off her new car to friends who were inside the vehicle at the time, before allegedly visiting several bars the night of the crash.

Chambers was facing anywhere from two to 20 years behind bars.
