Trump to make Iran decision 'within the next two weeks' given 'chance' of negotiations, Leavitt says

Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, stated on Thursday that President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether the U.S. will get involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran.

“I have a message directly from the president, and I quote, ‘Considering the potential for negotiations with Iran that may or may not occur soon, I will determine whether or not to proceed within the next two weeks,'” Leavitt shared at a White House briefing, quoting Trump.

“He’s been very straightforward,” she mentioned. “When he issued a 60-day warning, Iran did not engage in talks. On day 61, Israel took measures against Iran. As I directly quoted from the president, he will make his decision within two weeks.”

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Wednesday, Trump declined to say if he had made a decision on the U.S. joining Israel’s military campaign.

“I may do it. I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do,” he said. Trump also said this week that Iran must “make a deal now – or face even more brutal military action.”

Israel launched an attack on Iran on Friday, targeting its nuclear facilities and taking out some of the country’s top military generals. Iran has been responding by hitting Tel Aviv and other locations.

An Iranian missile hit the Soroka Hospital on Thursday morning, injuring more than 70 people, Israel said.

Israeli Foreign Minster Gideon Sa’ar said that the Iranian attack amounts to a war crime, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed retaliation for the strike.
