A 17-year-old girl was transported to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma alert.

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. — Emergency responders, including fire teams and Pinellas County deputies, have been called to St. Pete Beach where three individuals were hit by lightning on July 4th.

St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched just after 12:15 p.m. to the public beach access at 4700 Gulf Boulevard.

Deputy Fire Chief Adam Poirrier reported that fire crews arrived on the scene just three minutes after receiving the call. They discovered a family of three who seemed to have been struck by lightning while seeking shelter under a beach umbrella.

Once there, responders tended to two adults who declined further medical assistance. However, a 17-year-old girl was taken to Tampa General Hospital, categorized as a trauma alert.

According to St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue, 13 personnel were at the scene along with four units from Sunstar Paramedics.
