Lindsay Clancy Trial Tests Postpartum Psychosis Defense

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — After the birth of her third child, Lindsay Clancy’s mental health deteriorated dramatically over the course of several months.

She became manic, could not sleep and was overwhelmed by thoughts of self-harm. Clancy sought help from specialists in postpartum mood disorders, was prescribed multiple psychiatric medications and, when her condition did not improve, admitted herself to a psychiatric hospital.

Nineteen days after leaving that hospital, she strangled her three children inside their Massachusetts home.

If you are experiencing a suicidal, substance use or other mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach a trained crisis counselor for free, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Help is also available at 988lifeline.org or by calling 800-273-8255 [TALK].
