Patrick Clancy, the former husband of a Massachusetts woman accused of killing their three young children, is expected back on the witness stand Wednesday to continue recounting the day that began with doctor’s appointments, snow play and art projects, and ended with his discovery of the children’s bodies.
Prosecutors allege Lindsay Clancy strangled Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan on Jan. 24, 2023, after sending Patrick Clancy out of the house to run errands. Authorities say she then attempted to take her own life in multiple ways and was left paralyzed from the waist down after jumping from a second-story window.
The central issue at trial is not whether Lindsay Clancy killed the children. Her defense argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, a rare condition associated with childbirth, sleep deprivation, stress and hormonal changes. Prosecutors say the killings were deliberate and that she should be held criminally responsible.
