A Missouri man is behind bars after authorities say he allegedly beat his mother to death with a gardening tool after demanding his inheritance.

Derrick Alling, 39, is facing first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Deputies from Christian County responded to a call at Carolyn Alling’s home around 9:30 p.m. on September 25. The call was made by her husband, Derrick Alling’s stepfather, who asked for a welfare check because she wasn’t answering her phone, according to a report by FOX 8.

Derrick Alling is currently held without bond after he pleaded not guilty to allegedly murdering his mother due to an inheritance dispute, as confirmed by Christian County authorities. (Google Maps)

Fox News Digital was unable to immediately locate an attorney representing Derrick Alling.

Before the alleged murder, the victim’s husband claimed that Derrick Alling repeatedly threatened his mother and demanded his inheritance, based on court documents reviewed by Fox News Digital.

“The victim had been recording the defendant acting aggressively and violently towards her within weeks of her murder,” authorities said.

Prosecutors disclosed that the stepfather informed police that he and his wife chose to keep their marriage clandestine to avoid any violent reactions from Derrick if he discovered it.

Carolyn Alling was a licensed dental hygienist who had lived in California with her late husband and two children before relocating to Missouri, as noted in her obituary.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Derrick Alling has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 14.
