Man caught on camera tossing puppy over gate in Mission Viejo 'coyote country' sparks outrage

A distressing incident captured on video has appalled viewers and left animal advocates on high alert. In a shocking display of cruelty, an individual was recorded callously throwing a helpless puppy over a tall fence, effectively abandoning it at an animal shelter in Orange County.

The Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, in an effort to bring the perpetrator to justice, has released the disturbing footage of the event, which occurred on April 10. They are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to identifying the person responsible for treating the innocent animal with such heartlessness.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of April 10.

The surveillance video reveals a red sedan pulling up to the facility’s gate during the early morning hours, around 3:25 a.m. The driver exits the vehicle, and without a moment’s pause, tosses the small puppy through the fence before casually returning to his car and driving away into the darkness.

The situation was made more perilous by the location, known locally as “coyote country,” heightening the risks for the abandoned animal. Despite the grave danger, the puppy, defying the odds, managed to escape becoming prey.

Remarkably resilient, the frightened pup wandered away from the scene and eventually found its way to a nearby veterinary urgent care clinic. The staff there discovered the dog and quickly took it in, ensuring it received the care it needed. The puppy is reportedly recovering well and is now under the protection of Mission Viejo Animal Services.

Instead, the shaken puppy wandered away and somehow made its way to a nearby veterinary urgent care clinic, where staff discovered the dog and rushed it inside. The pup is reportedly doing well and in the care of Mission Viejo Animal Services.

“Abandoning an animal is illegal under California law,” the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center reminded the public.

Outraged locals and animal lovers lit up social media after the video surfaced, branding the man a “scum bag.”

“This is a deeply troubling and unacceptable act,” said Mission Viejo Animal Services Director Brynn Lavison in a statement. “There are safe, humane, and legal options for individuals who are unable to care for an animal. Abandoning a defenseless puppy in this manner not only endangers the animal but is also a violation of the law.”

Now, officials are hunting for the suspect, who remains on the loose.
