The man was arrested on three felonies revolving around alleged fraud, according to local news media.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Reports indicate that a man dressed as Chuck E. Cheese was removed from a child’s birthday event and apprehended in Florida on Thursday.
The man was arrested on three felonies, according to local news media The Tallahassee Democrat.
According to records, he faces charges including theft of a credit card, criminal use of personal identification information, and making fraudulent use of a credit card more than two times within a six-month period.
Photos and videos capturing the incident have drawn online attention, sparking questions about why officers didn’t wait until his shift ended or at least until he was out of costume and away from children. TMZ reported that a birthday celebration was indeed in progress at the time of the arrest.
A TikTok video of the arrest shows the man, in full costume with the mascots head and all, being led out to a patrol car where officers pull the mouse head off the suspects head and set it on top of the car.
He is still wearing the Chuck E. Cheese gloves and oversized red shoes while handcuffed.
One commenter took to the police department’s social media to say her children were “still crying” after seeing the mascot arrested.
Reports say he was released after posting a $1,000 bail. No other information is known at this time.
