Surveillance video shows 26-year-old man grabbing toddler from mall play area before arrest for abduction

Just three days after being released from jail, a repeat offender was seen on video attempting to abduct a toddler from her family at a mall in Virginia. This incident led Governor Glenn Youngkin to criticize the county’s lenient crime policies.

“There is an alarming and unacceptable trend in Fairfax County where criminals are being released onto Virginia’s streets instead of being kept in jail,” Youngkin stated on X. “The Commonwealth’s Attorney prioritizes the protection of criminals over the safety of children.”

“Fairfax County parents should be horrified,” Youngkin said.

In response to Youngkin’s message, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares also shared on X that his office “will investigate the situation and inform Fairfax residents about why CA Descano’s [Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano] decision not to prosecute criminals is putting the public at risk.”

a court’s decision to allow a defendant to be released from custody without having to post bail, based on their promise to appear in court.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the offices of Youngkin and Descano for comment.
