A Marion County woman is accused of shooting at a deputy while cuffed, leading to charges of attempted murder and possessing a firearm as a felon.
MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A woman from Marion County is facing charges for allegedly pulling out a gun and firing at a deputy while being transported to jail following her arrest on Monday. She reportedly managed this while in handcuffs.
Rheanna Harden, 22, is charged with attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that Harden was taken into custody during a traffic stop, facing charges including possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, carrying drug paraphernalia, giving a false ID to law enforcement, and driving with a suspended license. She was handcuffed, thoroughly searched, and then placed in the back seat of Deputy A. Guillard’s vehicle.
As they were driving north on South Highway 441 in the vicinity of the 2900 block, Harden allegedly accessed a firearm concealed in her clothing and opened fire on Deputy Guillard, according to the MCSO.
The patrol vehicle crashed into a utility pole. Guillard got out of the car, returned fire, and took cover.
He sustained a graze wound to his right eye, and Harden was injured in the shoulder and hip. Both were taken to the hospital and later released.
Harden is being held at the Marion County Jail without bond.
