A Maryland woman struck it lucky with a $50,000 lottery win by using numbers from her husband’s old car’s license plate, which he stubbornly keeps despite its condition, authorities reported.
Residing in St. Mary’s County, the woman shared with the Maryland Lottery that the inspiration for her “Pick 5” victory came from a “distinctive five-digit number” emblazoned on the plate of the dilapidated vehicle, an unwanted fixture in their driveway.
“One day, while looking at the unsightly car, she decided to turn the situation to her advantage for some extra cash,” the Maryland Lottery revealed in a press release.
After faithfully using this number combination for more than a year, the medical professional and grandmother finally clinched the $50,000 prize in April, the lottery agency confirmed.
“Pick 5 is my go-to game,” the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, stated.
The odds of securing the $50,000 prize are 1 in 100,000, requiring a $1 wager to correctly predict the exact five-digit sequence drawn.
The lucky winner said she plans to use the extra cash to pay off bills and will use the rest to “spoil her grandchildren.”
Atrium Spirits in Charlotte Hall, where the winning ticket was purchased, will also get a $500 bonus, the agency added.
