Thousands storm Manhattan calling for 'global intifada,' a phrase with a pending violence designation

Thousands gathered in midtown Manhattan on Saturday afternoon to demonstrate against Israel, advocating for a “global intifada,” which many interpret as a call for violence against Jewish communities.

The Stand with Gaza protesters, waving signs demanding an “end to all aid to Israel,” rang cowbells and chanted slogans like “free, free Palestine” and “Palestine will live forever.”

Following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack in southern Israel, the expression “globalize the intifada” is seen as promoting antisemitic violence.

Legislation has been proposed in response to violent incidents against Jewish individuals in the U.S., such as the killing of pro-Israel demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, and the shooting deaths of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, D.C.

If approved in the House, the resolution would label the phrase as inciting violence against Israeli and Jewish people worldwide, endangering their lives. It would also discourage leaders from endorsing or participating in this chant.
