In a heartwarming display of community spirit, former Councilman Reggie Gaffney Sr. and current Councilman Reggie Gaffney Jr. extended a helping hand to their Jacksonville neighbors by distributing 800 complimentary turkeys. This event underscores the persistent needs facing many families, especially during the holiday season.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As dawn broke over Jacksonville’s Northside on Saturday, a line of hopeful residents had already formed, eager to ensure a festive Thanksgiving for their families. The Gaffney family, well-known for their charitable endeavors, orchestrated this turkey giveaway, marking over a decade of this cherished tradition.

Among those who rose early was Joe Madison, who expressed the significance of the event for struggling families. “It means a lot for the Gaffney family and organizations to families that are in need,” Madison shared, emphasizing the community’s appreciation.

This year saw an increase in the number of turkeys distributed, with the Gaffneys giving away more than in previous years. The impressive turnout took the organizers by surprise, highlighting the growing demand for such support.

Reggie Gaffney Jr. remarked on the situation, saying, “The need is great, you know. It’s a lot of people that’s hurting, a lot of people going through hardship. People need food on their tables — so we just want to give back and make a difference today.”

“That need is great, you know. It’s a lot of people that’s hurting, a lot of people going through hardship. People need food on their tables — so we just want to give back and make a difference today,” Gaffney Jr. said.

The Gaffney team moved quickly, offloading pallets and directing traffic as families waited patiently.

“I’m glad the good Lord would allow us to be a blessing… and what I’m nervous about is 800 turkeys and so much food — and you’re still gonna run out. That shows the need in Jacksonville,” Gaffney Sr. said.

When asked what they learned from this year’s turkey drive, both said the turnout highlights the need for even more food next year.

“Last year I think we had 700. This year we had 800 — and God willing we will have 1,000+,” Gaffney Sr. said.

“Serving is caring. You know—it’s God’s work. It’s giving back and making a difference. That’s what the purpose of life is: giving back and making a difference,” Gaffney Jr. added.

Families who missed Saturday’s giveaway can reach out to Councilman Gaffney Jr.’s office for more information.
