Shooting at Jacksonville apartment complex leaves man dead, another injured: JSO

Tragic Incident at Jacksonville Apartments Results in One Fatality, One Injured: Police Report

Authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that two men known to each other were involved in a shooting incident at Gregory Cove Apartments, specifically in the breezeway of building 10.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In the early hours of Saturday morning, a shooting at a local apartment complex left one man dead and another injured, as confirmed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Steve Rudlaff from JSO stated that officers were dispatched to Gregory Cove Apartments, located off Edenfield Road, following a report of gunshots at approximately 1:40 a.m.

While en route, Rudlaff noted that the situation escalated to a report involving a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in his early 30s with at least one gunshot wound near the parking area, according to Rudlaff. The victim was subsequently transported to Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Simultaneously, Rudlaff mentioned that another man, aged between 35 and 40, showed up at the HCA Emergency Room on Merrill Road with a gunshot wound to his leg.

According to detectives, both men, believed to be acquaintances, were together when the shooting happened in the breezeway of building 10 at the apartment complex.

Rudlaff told First Coast News it’s “not uncommon for this area to hear gunshots during the night, so a lot of people did not call the sheriff’s office when this took place.” He added that the man who was killed in the shooting lived at the apartment complex, while the other was a guest.

JSO said it currently does not have any suspect information to release.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
