Several people were hurt Friday in West Texas after a gunman opened fire and then barricaded himself inside a building, according to authorities.
In Midland, police said they are engaged in an ongoing standoff with the suspect following the morning shooting. Videos from the scene captured the sound of repeated gunfire.

Midland spokesperson Stewart Doreen told USA TODAY that multiple victims were transported to local hospitals.
Officials have not yet released details on the extent of the injuries or the victims’ conditions.
“Officers heard gunfire coming from the building and worked quickly to secure and clear the area,” Midland Police Chief Snow said in a statement.
“Armored units were deployed, and partner agencies assisted in the response. Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing.”
Officials have asked the public to avoid the 4600 block of West Wall Street. Midland is a city of about 130,000 located about 320 miles west of Austin.
