Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu sharply criticized President Donald Trump on CNN’s “The Source” on Friday, arguing that the president has “become the swamp” he once promised voters he would drain.
Landrieu said Trump’s conduct is unlike anything Americans have seen from a president, pointing to what he described as chaos and the appearance of corruption surrounding the administration. “When he ran, he said he was going to drain the swamp. He has become the swamp,” Landrieu said. He argued that Trump has been consumed by “bombs, ballrooms and ballots,” while questions persist about his financial ties to companies affected by federal regulation. Landrieu added that the public is only seeing part of the picture, asking what might be happening beyond public view.

He went on to argue that corruption has real consequences for working Americans, saying it ultimately contributes to higher costs. Landrieu said voters want the president focused on everyday economic pressures, including food, gas and housing prices, rather than what he called distractions and political grievances. He said frustration is growing because Americans believe Trump has “lost focus” and is no longer centered on their concerns. Landrieu concluded that if Trump loses, it will not be because of an election problem in Georgia, but because he has “lost touch with the American people.”
