MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLS) — One woman says a windstorm in Montgomery caused a piece of a power line to rip through her house.

She says the part just missed her while she and others were in the living room.

Maggie Green says a large disc sliced through her roof.

Because of its weight, the wind that night and the height of the power line, she says it could have killed her.

“The cap sliced through my house like a circular saw blade,” Green said.

Green, a hairstylist, was in her living room preparing to add pink highlights to her friend’s 10-year-old daughter’s hair when a disc shot off the power line in her backyard and pierced through her roof. They initially thought it was a tornado.

“We sat, like, sat in the bathtub, and we were just waiting,” Green said.

When they came out, they realized there was no tornado, just the disc, that had missed them by inches.

“It could have been much worse; instead of just potential injuries, we could have been severely harmed. Imagine witnessing someone else getting harmed,” Green explained.

Still shaken, Green says the experience has left her feeling physically ill from stress. On August 16, the disc narrowly missed her, struck the table and dresser, and finally landed on the floor.

“This corner of the wall stopped it,” Green said. “Yeah, her mom was right there. So, it was like a miracle.”

She’s counting her blessings, as she tries to emphasize the weight of the nearly 35-inch-long item.

Green said this could’ve gone drastically different.

“It’s insane. It’s like ‘Final Destination,'” Green said.

Despite her landlord repairing the roof and firefighters ensuring the house’s safety, Green reports she is still awaiting a response from ComEd. Surrounded by numerous power lines, her main concern is safety.

“If a windstorm made that fall off and almost kill us, then imagine the next storm. What’s going to happen?” Green said.

ComEd did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
