In Cincinnati, Ohio, a wooden balcony on a third-floor apartment gave way Friday evening, resulting in at least 10 people sustaining injuries, according to officials.
Cincinnati Fire Chief Frank McKinley reported the incident occurred at an apartment complex in the Corryville neighborhood, which is situated near the University of Cincinnati campus.
McKinley confirmed that 10 individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, with at least one person suffering from life-threatening injuries. The current status of the injured parties has not been disclosed.
The exact cause of the balcony’s collapse remains under investigation.
“We’re informed it was a gathering, and many present were students,” McKinley stated. “However, we lack specific details regarding the celebration’s nature.”
The fire chief mentioned that the number of people present on the balcony at the time of the collapse is still unknown. He added that an investigation is underway and that the university has been alerted.
