At least 11 hurt in mass shooting in Little River, South Carolina

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — At least 11 people were taken to hospitals after a shooting Sunday night in a South Carolina beach town, authorities said.

Horry County Police have not disclosed the health status of any individuals harmed or detailed the nature of their injuries from the incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. in Little River.

Investigators were getting reports of more people arriving at the hospital in private vehicles, Horry County Police said on social media.

About 90 minutes post-shooting, authorities classified it as an isolated event, indicating there is no threat to public safety. They have yet to provide details on potential suspects or what may have triggered the event.

The shooting happened around a boat dock near the Intracoastal Waterway.

Video from the scene showed dozens of police cars and ambulances rushing in and out of the area.

A North Myrtle Beach police officer, while attending to the shooting scene, accidentally discharged his weapon and injured his leg at a marina approximately 3 miles (5 kilometers) away. He is currently hospitalized in stable condition, according to North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Lauren Jessie.

Little River is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Myrtle Beach.
