TRI-CITIES, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Salvation Army of the Tri-Cities is preparing to kick off National Salvation Army Week on Monday.

National Salvation Army Week has been celebrated annually since 1954, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed the first week of recognition, according to a release from the organization. The week is intended to highlight The Salvation Army’s services, history, and impact on communities.

The Salvation Army of the Tri-Cities, encompassing the Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol corps, has provided the following services to those in need across several counties over the past year:

  • 36,061 nights of shelter
  • 113,167 meals served
  • 16,670 gifts under the Christmas tree
  • 21,511 clothing items distributed
  • 5,579 food boxes distributed

“We are thrilled to kick off National Salvation Army Week and commemorate the organization’s rich history, services, and influence in our community,” stated Captain Crystal Radi of The Salvation Army of Kingsport in the release. “We want to extend our gratitude to our volunteers, donors, and stakeholders for their support throughout the year. Without them, we could not assist those in need and make a difference in our community.”

The Salvation Army of the Tri-Cities said its locations are hosting a series of events to celebrate National Salvation Army Week, and the public is invited to join and learn more about services provided and how to volunteer.
