Suspect in 'Trump House' owner attack is mentally ill Navy vet, victim's wife says won't survive: reports

A Navy veteran is facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly assaulting and severely injuring the proprietor of the renowned “Trump House” in Southern California. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, has left the victim’s family fearing for his survival. Meanwhile, the accused has been identified as Thomas Caleb Butler, a 32-year-old who reportedly struggles with mental health issues.

Butler is currently detained without bail at the Vista Detention Facility located in San Diego County. A close acquaintance of Butler revealed to the California Post that the reasons behind Butler’s attack on 69-year-old homeowner Kerry Sheron remain unclear. However, it was noted that Butler was under medication for his mental condition.

“He’s just someone who enjoys simple things like Legos and Star Wars,” the friend remarked, shedding light on Butler’s character.

A photograph of Thomas Matthew Butler, accused of the brutal attack on the “Trump House” owner in Southern California, was obtained by The California Post. The image’s date remains unspecified.

Butler’s friend disclosed that his mental state had been deteriorating due to ineffective medications. Following his service in the Navy, Butler has been unemployed, which may have contributed to his struggles.

In related news, a resident in a predominantly blue city has pledged to maintain their pro-Trump political displays at home, even after enduring a second shooting attack. This determination underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding political expressions in the area.

The friend also reportedly said that Butler “sits in his room and thinks everyone is coming to get him.”

Sheron’s property was adorned in American flags and pro-Trump paraphernalia, which for years caused neighbors and residents to sometimes complain about the display. His property has also been subject to vandalism.

They found a man, later identified as Sheron, “suffering from significant injuries,” and police said that a bystander who intervened during the alleged attack was also injured.

Butler fled the scene but was tracked down by police shortly thereafter.

Sheron is currently in intensive care, and his wife, Maria Garcia, told The Post that she doesn’t expect her husband to survive.

She thinks the attack was politically motivated.

“He tried to kill my husband, you know,” she told CBS 8. “It’s terrible. I don’t know what kind of hate… what heart, the black heart.”

“They don’t like the flags. I don’t know why. I support America. My husband is [a] veteran,” she said.
