In a significant development unfolding in Derby, a city nestled in central England, authorities have declared a major incident, prompting the evacuation of around 200 homes. This decisive action follows the arrest of two men on suspicion of offenses related to explosives.

According to the Derbyshire Constabulary’s update on social media, the evacuations were precautionary measures. This decision came after officers, acting on specific intelligence, executed a warrant concerning materials located at a residence on Vulcan Street.

The arrested individuals are reported to be two men, one in his 40s and the other in his 50s. Both suspects, identified as Polish nationals, are currently in police custody, though further details about their identities have not been disclosed by the authorities.

In response to the situation, a controlled explosion was carried out by police at the site, underscoring the seriousness of the threat. This activity marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation into the materials discovered during the raid.

Amidst the unfolding events, local residents have expressed their concern and surprise. Esteban Duda, a 17-year-old resident, recounted his initial shock to the BBC. “I was very shocked, I didn’t know what to do. I literally jumped off my bed, put my clothes on, and then I was just letting everyone know they had to leave,” he shared, reflecting the urgency of the evacuation.
