A New Jersey physician accused of expressing happiness over the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has stepped down, while the nurse who brought the complaint against him will remain employed, as confirmed by the hospital to Fox News Digital.

Englewood Health announced it “thoroughly examined” the September 10 interaction “between a doctor and a nurse in a patient care setting.” This update follows a lawsuit filed by nurse Lexi Kuenzle, 33, against Englewood Health and Dr. Matthew Jung, where it was claimed that Jung “expressed elation and cheered” at the news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination with comments made in front of patients and other hospital personnel, and that she faced suspension after reporting him.

Though the hospital’s investigation results have not been shared, a representative for the healthcare facility informed Fox News Digital via email that it has “accepted the physician’s resignation, and the nurse will continue with her scheduled shifts.”

The representative added, “The nurse was never terminated; never informed of impending termination by Englewood Hospital; and will continue to receive her pay throughout our examination of this incident.”

“He stood there, celebrating the demise of Charlie Kirk, declaring how ‘he deserved it,’ expressing disdain for Charlie Kirk and saying ‘he had it coming,’” noted the nurse, who identifies as “an ardent admirer of Charlie Kirk.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Kuenzle and Deol for comment following the hospital’s announcement of Jung’s resignation, but they did not immediately respond.

Englewood Health’s statement on Monday said that the hospital “is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all.”
