No charges filed after Malik McCorkle shot, killed near Lincoln Park bar The Dime, which was shut down, state's attorney says

CHICAGO () — No criminal charges will be filed in connection with a fatal shooting near a Lincoln Park bar, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

The deadly shooting occurred Sunday around 11:43 p.m. in the 2200-block of North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago police said.

Officials identified the victim as 30-year-old Malik McCorkle, who was shot in the head and later died at Illinois Masonic Hospital.

According to police, the gunfire followed a fight that erupted near a bar, after which someone opened fire at McCorkle.

Security video from a nearby business captured a large crowd gathered in the street before the shooting, with several people appearing to hold guns. Authorities said more than a dozen shots were fired.

Police said a suspect was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered.

On Wednesday, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said that person would not be charged:

“After a thorough review, the CCSAO determined the available evidence is insufficient to support the filing of criminal charges.”

On Tuesday, 43rd Ward Alderman Timmy Knudsen announced that Chicago police ordered The Dime bar to close immediately under a summary closure order.
