NYC probation staffer was sacked for blowing whistle on alleged tryst between Mamdani appointee and top aide: suit

An investigator with the city’s Department of Probation has reportedly been dismissed after raising concerns about a supposed romantic involvement between the agency’s newly appointed leader and a senior attorney, according to a recent lawsuit.

Ebony Huntley, a former NYPD lieutenant, alleges she was terminated the day following her communication with the city Department of Investigation, where she voiced apprehensions regarding the agency’s direction under the new Probation Commissioner, Sharun Goodwin, who was appointed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani in late January.

The lawsuit highlights a significant accusation: that Goodwin had a “prior intimate relationship” with General Counsel Wayne McKenzie. This claim emerges following McKenzie’s re-hiring by Goodwin after her appointment, as detailed in the legal documents filed on Thursday.

Reported first by Politico, Huntley’s lawsuit asserts she faced retaliation for her whistleblower actions, resulting in her dismissal from her $170,000 annual role as the department’s chief investigator.

Additionally, Huntley contends that the city owes her $200,000 for unpaid wages incurred during her brief tenure at the agency.
