On Monday afternoon, a security guard was shot near Madison Square Park in Manhattan, and authorities suspect the incident stemmed from a long-standing conflict, according to law enforcement sources.

The 49-year-old victim was hit in the torso just after 12:30 p.m. on Madison Avenue, close to East 28th Street in the NoMad area. This location is only a short distance from The Prince George, a shelter managed by the organization Breaking Ground, where the victim is employed, sources and police indicated.

He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where medical staff reported his condition as stable.

Investigations reveal that the victim and the shooter were acquainted, and their relationship was marked by ongoing tensions, sources disclosed.

According to reports, the suspect returned to the shelter and attacked the guard, days after their initial disagreement, sources mentioned.

Currently, it remains unclear whether the suspect has any direct connections to the shelter itself.

No arrests have been made, police said.
