A man was fatally shot inside a New York City subway station Saturday afternoon, police confirmed to News Outlet.
The shooting occurred shortly after noon at the 53rd Street and 7th Avenue station in busy Midtown Manhattan, according to the NYPD.
Hassen Pinchback, a visitor from Orlando, Florida, told News Outlet that he saw the aftermath and watched as passengers began running when the gunfire erupted.
“It was like a stampede,” he said.

Pinchback said the gunfire began when the train doors opened. “That’s when you heard pop pop pop,” he recalled. He added that a female bystander performed chest compressions on the victim before officers arrived, urging him to “Hang in there.”
Another witness from Washington state, who identified herself only by the last name Miller, said she and her daughter were inside a subway car with its doors open when they heard about five shots. Her daughter stepped outside, and the shooter looked directly at her before continuing to fire.
“I just started praying. I’m a very strong Christian,” she said. “Jesus saved us. 100%.”
