A knife-wielding attacker carried out a violent 30-minute rampage through Oakland on Monday night, killing one person and injuring four others, police said.
The series of stabbings began shortly before 7:30 p.m., with the suspected assailant moving through several parts of the city, including the Fruitvale BART station.
The first victim was discovered inside Cesar Chavez Park and later died from their injuries. Two other victims are in critical condition, while two more are reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses and nearby residents who saw the chaos unfold helped officers track down the suspect near 39th Avenue, between International Boulevard and East 18th Street, where police took him into custody.
Authorities have not released a possible motive and have not said whether the suspect had any connection to the victims.
Oakland police are urging anyone with information, photos or video related to the stabbing incidents to come forward and contact investigators.
The Post has contacted the Oakland Police Department seeking additional details.
