Ohio felon Timothy J. Reaggle slips cuffs, punches bailiff in the throat and bolts for the exit seconds after being sentenced to prison

A dramatic courthouse video shows a convicted Ohio man striking a bailiff in the throat and fighting with deputies in a failed attempt to escape just moments after receiving a prison sentence.

Timothy J. Reaggle, 20, had just been sentenced to one year behind bars in a separate case when a bailiff escorted him through a hallway at Columbiana County Court on Monday, WKBN reported.

But Reaggle appeared unwilling to accept his immediate transfer to prison.

Footage released by the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and obtained by the outlet shows Reaggle breaking free from his handcuffs while the bailiff walked behind him. He then turned and punched the officer in the throat before running down the hallway.

Reaggle next lowered his shoulder and slammed into another deputy, sending the officer to the floor. He then headed toward a stairwell as a deputy chased after him.

The attempted courthouse escape continued when Reaggle stumbled at the bottom of the stairs and landed in the arms of another deputy. He managed to pull away again and ran toward the building’s front entrance, where an officer deployed a Taser from behind.

Three officers quickly restrained Reaggle. One appeared to hold him in a chokehold as the deputies took him into custody.

The video also captures bystanders rushing to assist the injured officers. One deputy is later shown lying on the floor with blood on his head while pressing a paper towel to his face.

Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin told WFMJ that both deputies suffered broken bones during the confrontation. Each was later released from the hospital.

McLaughlin said Reaggle remains jailed at the Columbiana County Jail and is expected to be transferred to state prison.

Reaggle had not yet been formally charged in connection with Monday’s struggle. However, McLaughlin said prosecutors are expected to pursue charges of assault on a police officer and felony escape.

Reaggle had appeared in court over a February 2025 incident in which he allegedly entered a home while three people were inside, then assaulted them or threatened to cause them harm, according to court records.

He also faced an aggravated menacing charge after allegedly causing one resident to fear serious injury to himself or damage to his property. In addition, authorities accused him of fleeing in a vehicle after police ordered him to stop.

After withdrawing his not guilty plea, Reaggle pleaded guilty July 13 to aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated menacing, failure to comply and two assault counts. Several charges had been reduced from the original allegations.

A judge sentenced him to one year in prison Monday. Within moments, Reaggle allegedly launched the courthouse escape attempt that ended with him being Tasered and detained.
