An attorney for Patrick Clancy is forcefully pushing back against what he describes as a growing wave of online misinformation, saying social media personalities and “minor celebrities” have exploited the mistrial in his wife’s murder case involving the couple’s three children.
Howard Cooper, Clancy’s lawyer, told Boston 25 News that Patrick Clancy and his relatives have endured “a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign” in recent months.
Cooper said the attacks have been driven by influencers, conspiracy theorists and others seeking attention, accusing them of spreading claims they know are false — including allegations that Patrick was somehow connected to the deaths of his children, along with other deeply damaging accusations.
According to Cooper, the accusations have intensified since the mistrial was declared Friday.
He said the online campaign, amplified by heavy media attention, has reached a dangerous level and has created real-world risks to Clancy’s reputation, career and personal safety.
Cooper said Patrick Clancy is now compelled to respond in order to stop the harmful conduct, seek accountability for what he called self-serving lies, and refocus on honoring the memories of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy while supporting women dealing with perinatal mental health challenges.

The attorney also indicated that legal action remains a possibility against those spreading the allegations.
“Enough is enough — this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” Cooper said, adding that those responsible should expect consequences and that “every appropriate measure” may be used to hold them accountable, including legal avenues. He also said law enforcement has been notified.
Lindsay Clancy was charged with murdering the children inside the family’s Duxbury, Mass. home in January 2023.
Although her lawyers never disputed the fact that she killed the children, they argued she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and could therefore not be held criminally liable.
However, the jury could not come to a unanimous verdict, with one lone holdout – one of the 12-member jury’s three men – resulting in the mistrial.
Patrick Clancy has previously said that he’s forgiven Lindsay and that he considered her sick rather than evil.
