Debris from a small aircraft was precariously left hanging from a rooftop in Phoenix after the plane crashed into a residence shortly after takeoff. The impact tore through a nursery and resulted in three individuals being hospitalized.

According to FOX10 Phoenix, the incident happened around 7:20 a.m. near the intersection of Cave Creek Road and Deer Valley Drive, shortly after the plane departed from Deer Valley Airport.

Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller explained that the pilot was traveling westward when an unspecified issue compelled him to attempt a return to the airport. Instead, the aircraft collided with a house, stripping away a portion of its roof, before coming to rest in a nearby yard next to a swimming pool.

A bystander recounted hearing an explosive noise at the moment of the crash.

“It was as if a bomb had detonated or someone had violently slammed a trash can,” the witness remarked.

Home surveillance video captured the moment the plane crashed. Aerial footage of the aftermath showed wreckage scattered across the roof, including a wing, while the fuselage sat crumpled in the backyard.

A man inside one of the homes was injured and taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to the report. A student pilot and instructor aboard the plane managed to climb out of the wreckage but were also hospitalized.

The crash ruptured the aircraft’s fuel system, triggering a hazardous materials response as gasoline leaked into the first home hit.
