The driver crashed his car into a nearby home after he was shot near Kimball and Belmont, police said.

The 32-year-old man who was shot was driving his vehicle when he was approached by a light-colored pickup truck carrying two unidentified men. These men fired several shots before escaping, according to the CPD.

The victim was hit in the head and crashed, causing property damage to a home, police said.

A local resident, along with others, saw what happened and rushed to help the victim.

“I was outside my apartment and I think it was a road rage incident,” recounted witness David Martinez. “I heard a couple of shots and saw a crash into the building. I witnessed the young man being shot and a young woman shouting for help. I went over to stabilize him; he was shot in the head. Another neighbor and I helped move the fence so emergency responders could reach him.”

The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, Chicago police said.

There are no offenders in custody. Area Five Detectives are investigating.
