Police descended on the gated-community home of slain New York Times technology executive Jonathan McKinsey on Tuesday night, with several officers seen entering the residence as his wife’s parents remained jailed in connection with his alleged killing.
Video recorded Tuesday showed officers arriving at what appeared to be a group of townhomes inside the gated community. They repeatedly knocked on the door until someone came outside and opened it.
Officers arrived shortly before 7 p.m. and left around 9 p.m. No arrests were made, and authorities did not seize any property from the home.
Police then entered the residence one at a time, while several officers remained at the property.
The police activity came days after McKinsey, 40, was allegedly shot and killed in Northern California by his elderly Chinese in-laws, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77.
Police said the shooting occurred at about 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds. Witnesses said Zhang and Chen allegedly took turns firing at McKinsey.
The New York Times confirmed that McKinsey was the victim and said he had worked for the newspaper since 2023. He served as the Times’ head of engineering for games player experience.

At the time of his death, McKinsey and his estranged wife, Candice Jang, were involved in a contentious custody dispute over their children.
Court records reviewed by The Post show that Alameda prosecutors charged McKinsey in 2025 with two misdemeanor counts of child abuse.
In a restraining order McKinsey filed against Jang, he said Chen had visited the couple in 2023 to care for their children.
Court documents also show that Chen, the grandmother accused of fatally shooting her transgender New York Times executive son-in-law, accused him of influencing her grandson to wear his sister’s dresses.
McKinsey’s cousin, Lovell Garner, told The California Post that the family was still struggling to come to terms with the killing.
“Well, it’s all still pretty fresh for me still,” Garner said. “So far, everyone in my immediate family is completely shocked. It seems obvious that they were done with him since they killed him. Not sure what would make them do something that extreme.”
Zhang and Chen remain in jail as the investigation into McKinsey’s death continues.
